Salt Maiden is quite a story that promises to get more interesting as time goes by.
I thought my friend Doug was committed to Swans. We sold his 391, and it wasn’t long before he started looking for a new boat. After a false start on another Swan, he was drawn to a custom German 48-foot Yachtwerft Luetje for sale in Canada. This boat was on a circumnavigation, and the German owners decided that it was time to sell the boat and return to Germany. Doug fell in love with the boat.
While drop-dead gorgeous, this beautiful and elegant yacht had some serious known needs. First and foremost, the deck needed to be replaced. The circumnavigation had taken its toll, and water intrusion had so compromised the deck in enough places that full replacement was warranted. It just so happened that the boat was sold in British Columbia, home to Jespersen Boat Builders, which does some of the finest boat building in North America, if not the world.
Salt Maiden went into the shed at Jespersen for a new deck and updated systems. She’ll be the envy of many a sailor in the Pacific Northwest.
