While March is supposed to go out like a lamb, this year will be the opposite with a weak front going through the area tomorrow which will bring southerly breezes for the Sound, Admiralty Inlet, Eastern Strait of JdF, and the San Juan Islands with the potential for Small Craft Advisories.
After the front passes there will be a brief post-frontal westerly in the Strait of JdF with strong southerly breezes on the coast starting Sunday night. These will move inland early Monday morning and then rapidly dissipate.
Not a great weekend to be out on the water but better than being cooped up at the house. At least go down and check on the boat because better times are ahead.
Stay safe.
Ed. Note, looking forward to those better times. In the meantime everyone stay safe and help keep the rate of infection down. -KH
Bruce has raced and cruised the Pacific Northwest his entire life. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science from the University of Washington in Biological Oceanography and learned meteorology “to keep from getting kicked around on the race course.” Bruce spent nearly two decades as Associate Publisher for Northwest Yachting Magazine, retiring in mid-2015, and was the chairman of the board of trustees for the Northwest Marine Trade Association in 2014. (photo of Bruce driving Playstation is a bit dated, but cool)
Between Bruce’s spot-on forecasts and Kurt’s timely weigh-ins, we have to admit that Pacific Northwest sailors are well served (and indeed blessed) by their professional engagement in our SRA (Sailing Region Afloat). More than ever, in these times, we need to play better, bigger, safer, and funner (funner?). Jan and I flat out LOVE the energy in the PNW sailing fleet / yacht club activities, and would prefer to do this forever … and ever. Bless you, Bruce and Kurt – keep charging!
Thanks, Skip. We try in between life’s other obligations. I’d like to point out that we’re doing this purely for the love of Northwest sailing. In the coming months, our recreation can become a very healthy and uplifting pastime. By the same token, your work in educating mariners and Jan’s (with your help!) photography are a treasure for the PNW community. Add to that your many rescues on the water, and well, we’re lucky to have you.
